John’s career began in software engineering, where he accumulated extensive experience in both government and private sector projects. After completing his software and hardware engineering studies at RMIT, he joined Object Consulting, contributing to pivotal Victorian government projects, including the electronic conveyancing system. Later, as an independent contractor, John worked on the Victorian Government’s taxi management system during a period of significant industry disruption. Moving to TouchCorp, he led teams developing SaaS solutions for companies such as Optus, focusing on prepaid mobile services. His career trajectory shifted dramatically when AfterPay enlisted TouchCorp to build its initial payment infrastructure, and John became integral in developing Afterpay’s payment solutions. He moved into product management, taking ownership of Afterpay’s payment systems as the company scaled internationally, ultimately managing significant P&L responsibilities for payments across Australia, the US, and Europe.
